Is Your Pet “One of the Family”?

Before I begin this blog, I want to thank DK Hebert Photography for providing all of the photos I am using in this post.  (Except for our dog, Daisy in the photo below)   If you are looking for a wonderful, professional, understanding, patient and easy to get along with photographer, look them up on my website, Magnolia Court Wedding Guide under Photographers.  You won’t be disappointed.

Our dog Daisy, was in our family for 17 years, our beloved best friend.

Daisy – our dog for 17 years

It’s not unusual…because it’s happen to us…to have a couple that want to include their pet in their event.  When we had our venue, I had one customer who wanted their dog to be the ring bearer.

We had a dog for 17 years…Daisy was very much a part of our family.  This is why I could totally understand when a customer of ours wanted to include their pet in their “special day”.  Yes, we allowed this, as so many other venues do as well.

Thank you to Kailyn and Mikey, the bride and groom in the photo above,  for allowing us to use the photos of their dogs in this wedding blog.

As you can see from the photo above, here is the groom with his dog.  And you can see from the photo below, here is that same dog walking down the aisle.  All three dogs pictured in the photos are for the bride and groom.  My gosh….they are all so cute!!!!!  And what great memories they will have for many years to come….their dogs in their wedding!

“Bayou” is just so adorable!

There are a few things that you must consider because even if they have gone to obedience school….they are still a pet.  Below are a few tips that I suggest if you want to include your pet in your event.

A dog walking down the aisle for a wedding.

“Mochi” is ready to go!

Designate someone who isn’t in the bridal party to watch your pet for the day.  Make sure your pet is allowed to run and play during the day…to get out as much energy as possible.  If their is room on the venue property for your pet to run and play,  please remember to bag any “poop”…. it’s respectful to the venue and you don’t want your guest walking in that!

“Audio” is looking so cute!

Take photos of your pet before the event or even on a different day.  If your pet is going to be a ring bearer, practice with your pet a few times.  If your pet is going to wear a new item…like a bow tie collar or a ring pillow…put it on several times before the event…offering treats for a job well done while you practice.

Make sure your pet relieves himself right before your event…you sure don’t want an accident happening during your event.

Please remember you are dealing with an animal and anything can happen….if things don’t go quite as planned…try to laugh it off and stay relaxed.

After all, I’ve seen some crazy things happen with a child who is a flower girl or ring bearer….it just makes your wedding more personal and is always a good story to tell!

Remember…have fun!  Relax!  Enjoy your day!

Happy Planning!

Who Should Walk You Down The Aisle?

Who will walk you down the aisle, Alix chose her dad to walk her down the aisle.

When you are planning your wedding there are many factors to consider.  One of the things you need to think about is who will walk you down the aisle.

Alix, in the above photo, chose her dad to walk her down the aisle.  While in the photo below, you will see Anna chose both her mom and dad.

Who will walk you down the aisle? Anna chose both her mom and dad.

With divorced families, this decision can be especially hard.  Sometimes you don’t just have a biological father…but you also have a step father that you are close to and would like him included in walking you down the aisle. What should you do?  There is absolutely no reason both can’t be included as you see in the photo below, , Britney, chose to walk with her father and stepfather.

Who should walk you down the aisle? Qwen chose her dad and step dad to walk her down the aisle.

Another option is to have one walk you halfway down the aisle and the other one walk you the rest of the way.

While Gwen, in the photo below, chose her step dad to walk her down the aisle on her special day.

A bride who has no father living may decide to have their mom walk them. That is so awesome!  Their mom was not only their mother but also their father to them….why shouldn’t they pick their mother to walk them down the aisle.

Others opt for a close family member….sometimes a brother, uncle or even a grandparent.  I’ve had some brides who have no father or mother and a brother will walk them down the aisle. In the photo below, Amanda chose her Godfather to walk her down the aisle.

Who should walk you down the aisle? Amands's father passed away so she choose her Godfather to walk her.

And times have changed.  With the new laws, finally, we have this  wonderful couple below, Josh on the left and Evan on the right, walking down the aisle together!

Who will walk you down the aisle? Josh and Evan, same sex marriage, walk each other down the aisle.

Just remember that this is your day.  Do what makes you happy!
